2019 REVIEW

New artwork for Angrignon Metro
It’s not officially announced… so pretend you didn’t hear it here :-)
This is one of two murals I’ll be installing in Angrignon Metro in Montreal, after renovations are made to accommodate elevators. The title is “Boîtes vivantes”, made in glass and ceramic. More details to come!

Power Mutation
This sugar mural began its life during the 2018 Symposium international d’art contemporain de Baie-St-Paul. But over the past year, it mutated. More layers of piped icing were added, and new sugar elements incorporated to create this final installation. It was presented at the Ateliers Jean Brillant for our “reunion” show, called Intersections. See Project Page link HERE for more images of the details.

Inclusion in book "A Feast for the Eyes: Edible Art"
I was delighted to be included in this compilation of food art by author Carolyn Tillie. The full title, “A Feast for the Eyes: Edible Art from Apple to Zucchini”, is available widely. See link here for more details:

Dualities/Dualité
It was a year of many public art concept developments. This one was designated for the Circuit Gilles-Villeneuve. Although I didn’t win this competition, I’ve been a big F1 racing fan since I was 22 years old, so this one had a lot of personal meaning to me. Two Ductal concrete bands, seeming to pierce through the floor, with glass mosaic on one side, and textured concrete on the other. LED light bands were implanted along the interior edges, giving the work a dynamism at night.

Concept design for Bibliotheque Maisonneuve
I proposed this project for a library in Montreal. 9 feet tall, made in Ductal concrete, with a waterfall fountain element flowing along the outside surface. The inside texture looks like tree bark but would be made from book imprints. The title “SAGESSE INTÉRIEURE” refers to the inner wisdom of people, but also of trees and books. Transparent rods in the walls would permit light to emit through (vaguely seen in the photo); both sunlight in the daytime, and coloured lights at night, to project outward.

Parade float workshops with WIBCA
For the 3rd year in a row, I’ve worked with the West Island Black Community Association to design a parade float, based on a theme. This year the theme was colour! Keeping with our green theme, we focused on plants, both in design, and in having real plants on our float. Over 4 workshops, participants helped create the final float design, presented for the Pierrefonds Canada Day parade.
Taking Space
During the exhibition “Trames / Threads” held at Stewart Hall Gallery in May and June, I set up shop working in the gallery on a community collaborative project called “Taking Space”. Participants could come and make these round fabric forms called fuxico (foo-SHE-koo), also called yo-yo’s. They were used to create an overall image of the cosmos. This is an on-going project.

Concept for Gay Village, Montreal
I have seen the rewards of working collaboratively over the past few years and this concept development was one of these rewarding experiences. Although we weren’t selected as finalists, myself and landscape architects Andrew Harvey and Kaja Cerveny developed a street renewal proposal that fused string art with fireworks. Called “Pétard!”, this design would have surely been a hit!
